the Canadian Evaluation Society
Dedicated to the advancement of evaluation theory and practice.
In the field of evaluation, the Society promotes:
- Leadership
- Knowledge
- Advocacy
- Professional Development
The CES has produced a short presentation brochure that summarizes what it is, who it is for and what the benefits of membership are.
Professional Development
Annual Conference
One of the major activities of the CES is its Annual Conference. This provides a forum for the discussion of major theoretical, philosophical, and practical issues in evaluation.
Standards and Ethics
In 1993 the CES became a sponsor of the Joint Committee on Standards for Evaluation, and has promoted the highly respected publication The Program Evaluation Standards. The Society has also adopted its own Guidelines for Ethical Conduct which are used by many as a touchstone for good practice.
Essential Skills Series / Learning Opportunities
The popular Essential Skills Series has been refined and continues to be offered through local Chapters across Canada. Many CES members have attended this series.
Local Chapters also host specialized workshops on topical issues featuring known contributors to the evaluation field, and have informal sessions to exchange ideas or solve problems.
Student Involvement
The CES fosters the students' learning experience by hosting an annual Case Competition. Students from all disciplines and all levels of study are welcome to participate. In addition, we have the Student Essay Award for the best essay written in the field of evaluation. To further support student participation, the CES offers special student rates.
Organization of the Society
The CES has members in every Province and Territory in Canada. Chapters offer services such as resource networks, professional development activities, and forums for CES members to explore, discuss and get involved with evaluation interests. Tea Board of Directors is composed of an executive and representatives from each Province and Territory. They strive to bring the national interests to all of the membership. Volunteers are the heart of this organization and participation in Chapter activities is welcome!
