The African Evaluation (AfrEA) is a non-profit umbrella for African Voluntary Organizations for Professional Development (VOPEs). It serves as a leading source of evaluation knowledge for individual evaluators in countries where national evaluation associations do not exist.

The African Evaluation Guidelines was jointly put together by the AfrEA Secretariat, and all its Regional networks with support from UNICEF. The regional bodies that contributed included Nigerian Monitoring and Evaluation Network, Cape Verde Evaluation Network, Malagache Monitoring and Evaluation Network, Comoros Evaluation Network, Eritrean Evaluation Network, Malawi M&E Network, National Network of Researchers and Evaluators of Burundi, Rwanda Evaluation Network, Eastern and Southern Africa Regional M&E Network.
